As-salamu alaykum!
My name is Lulu von Sauer and I’m a Senior at American University majoring in International Relations with minors in Economics and French language. I am from Croton on Hudson, NY and this is my first time in Morocco!
Through Amideast, I am studying French and Darija! I’ve been living in Rabat for just over two weeks now, and the experience has already far exceeded my expectations. I came to Morocco hoping to immerse myself in the new culture and improve my language skills, and I’m so excited!
During our first week, we took a tour of Rabat, and one of the standout moments was visiting Chellah, the ancient Roman ruins right in the heart of the city. Photo credit: von Sauer, 2025.
Another highlight from my first two weeks was going to a Morocco World Cup qualifier soccer match in their brand new 70,000 seat stadium. The stadium was packed with fans and full of energy and the banners and choreography were really cool to watch. Photo credit: von Sauer, 2025.
Lastly, this past weekend I traveled to Tangier and had an incredible time exploring the city. While I personally prefer Rabat’s vibe, I’m really looking forward to continuing my travels and discovering more cities in Morocco. Photo credit: von Sauer, 2025.
