"Embracing Morocco: A Journey of Computer Science, French, and Cultural Exploration" by Destany Best
Hello My Friends,
Welcome to Destany’s Internet Diary! I'm diving into the world of blogging, and I can't wait to share my experiences, thoughts, and adventures as a third-year computer science and French major at Grinnell College. As I embark on this creative journey, I'm bringing you along for the ride, sharing my unique perspective on life, culture, and everything in between.
About Me:
I'm a lover of all things diverse and intriguing. Whether it's delving into the world of anime, grooving to The Weeknd's beats, immersing myself in the beauty of nature, or indulging in the captivating tales of romance and science fiction books, I find joy in the multifaceted tapestry of life. I'm also passionate about learning, be it through the lens of different cultures, the challenge of computer science, or the art of languages. Yoga and weightlifting keep me grounded, and the thrill of travel fuels my curiosity.
Goals:
My time here in Morocco is not just about academics; it's an opportunity to expand my horizons. I have some ambitious goals: to achieve fluency in French and Darija (colloquial Arabic), gain new perspectives through immersive experiences, master the art of Moroccan dancing, and become a local in every sense, embracing the culture as my own.
First Impressions:
The journey began with a surprisingly chill airport experience, swiftly navigating through the process. Orientation was a comprehensive week-long affair, setting the stage for what promises to be an unforgettable adventure. I've already started exploring the enchanting corners of this city, eager to become a local in every sense.
Discovering the Gems of Morocco:
Allow me to take you on a visual journey through some of the gems I've uncovered in Rabat. Each locale tells a unique story, adding to the rich tapestry of this beautiful country:
Oudaya: A picturesque journey through history and architecture.
Medina: A vibrant labyrinth of colors, scents, and sounds.
Sale: A city with a unique blend of tradition and modernity.
Amazigh New Year Celebration: An introduction to the rich cultural tapestry.
Jardin d’Essai: A serene oasis in the heart of the city.
Hassan 2 Parc: A perfect blend of nature and contemporary design.
Fun Cultural Discoveries:
The diverse and distinct flavors of Moroccan cuisine; bread, a staple that transcends meals; fruit as dessert, a delightful twist; Moroccan tea, a beverage to savor; learning Darija for seamless communication; and navigating the city through a mix of taxis and leisurely walks.
As I weave my way into the fabric of Moroccan life, I'm excited to share every twist and turn, every cultural discovery, and every moment of growth. Stay tuned for a blog series filled with photos, videos, poems, and text that capture the essence of my journey.
Let the adventure begin!
With wanderlust,
Destany
